AFTERNOON BOAT RIDE AND NIGHT DRIVE
We thoroughly enjoyed our boat ride. The air is so much cooler on the river. Rogers treated us to some thrilling moments as he opened up the motor and let loose. We had our Sundowners at a spot on the river where two elephants were slowly crossing almost completely submerged at points, eating as they went. The sun was setting behind them - it was a magical sight. As one got closer to our boat, he let loose with a loud trumpet just to let us know that he was there (as if we could miss him - my eyesight isn't that bad yet!) and not to get any closer. I managed to video him as he passed us by.
Then it was a mad dash to get off the river before dark and to go on our night drive. It was very quiet compared to last night's drive but we did manage to see three Honey Badgers, a Square-tailed Nightjar on a nest, a Genet (too brief a sighting to determine what species), a Wild Cat, and some Scrub Hares.
We returned in time for dinner on our private deck and this time Rogers joined us. He told us many interesting guiding stories and showed us some pictures of rare animals he has seen. It was a fun evening.
We decided to take it easy this morning passing up the opportunity of another game drive. We leave here just after 11:00 and we wanted to sleep in and enjoy a leisurely morning. It will be hard to tear ourselves away from this beautiful spot and all the pampering we have received. We have three flights today and will be going through customs as we travel to our next camp in Zambia. We won't arrive until 6:00 tonight so expect we'll be tired.
