ALMOST THERE

We are on the last leg of our epic two-day journey and are an hour away from Namibia. We managed to while away the ten hours overlay we had in Frankfurt by securing one of the private lounge areas and eating cookies (me). Our flight on South Africa Airways was smooth except for some turbulence over the Alps. The food was the most delicious I have had on any airline - a wonderful saffron risotto and chicken and a terrific omelet this morning. Our plane was delayed almost an hour in leaving Frankfurt so we were quite worried about making this connecting flight as our two-hour window shrunk to one. The pilot managed to make up about half an hour of the time but we still almost missed our flight. We had to go through passport control and then security again. The line-ups were horrendous. The fellow ahead of us noticed me checking my watch and suggested that we proceed ahead explaining why as we went. It is a good thing I took up his suggestion. We'd still be in the line-up. Most people were understanding though we did get some very annoyed responses. At security I was not too pleased when my nail scissors were confiscated - they are verboten here but OK to have in North America and Europe. Go figure.
We managed to get to our gate and met Glen Valentine, our Rockjumper guide for the trip. He was very solicitous and glad that we made the flight! He even carried our luggage for us. I managed to lose my boarding pass but fortunately, I was allowed on the plane without it.
We were offered a full meal on this flight but I am still stuffed and could only have a bit of cheese and crackers. I stashed a cookie in my backpack in Frankfurt and will have that if I feel peckish later on.
